Rite of Passage

I remember when I was 15 and had my whole life ahead of me.  I wanted to drive more than anything in the world.  To have that freedom to go by myself even if it was just to a school sports game.  It seems so long ago now when I was just starting to drive.  Our daughter just got her license not too long ago and I see that same excitement that I had when I was a teenager.  Excited over an opportunity to go and get milk, or go to a football game or meet her friends at Waffle House for breakfast.

Ashley is growing up, she is excited about driving obviously and I am trying to be good about giving her responsibility and freedom.  Well as much as I can anyway..... but even more than that she is thinking about what comes next.  Guess we need to start visiting some colleges.

Kids Interested?

I got to spend some time last week with my middle son on a school field trip.  During the trip I realized that we have begun to really share some of the same interests.  I mean I always knew that we shared an interest in reading but this in some ways more exciting than that.

When I was a teenager I always wanted to own a classic car, that desire has never really gone away but I have never had the opportunity to fulfill that dream.  While coming back from the field trip my son and I started talking about cars and he enjoys the classic cars as well.  It is energized that dream I once had and I hope it gives us something that we can share and be interested in together.  Who knows what might come if it.

Different Things

The Author of this post is Velma Baird
When we moved to Texas, I did not realize how different everything was going to be. When we drove out here I could not believe how the landscape was so different than where we came from. Everything seemed to be so flat. I was used to hills and mountains. Even the trees were different. I was used to a lot of pine trees and red dirt. They don’t have many pine trees and the dirt was definitely not red. Maybe not all of Texas was like that, but the part we went through was definitely different. We saw some cactus plants along the way too. I have never seen a cactus just growing outside like that. Where we used to live, we would grow little cactus plants in little clay pots in the house. Well out here they are huge and are outside. When we got to our house, we discovered they even have a different way of getting electricity through Texas energy rates. I wish someone had warned us about all these changes before we got out here. I guess we could have done a little more research before we came, but who had time to do all that?
